Plasterers & Dryliners in Slough: what to check and how to get an accurate quote
Practical local guidance across the SL postcodes, from Slough to Windsor and Maidenhead — accreditations worth checking, Slough Borough Council and landlord rules, and the details that let a local firm price the job first time.
Skim, re-plaster or dot-and-dab — which do I need?
If the existing plaster is sound but tired, a skim coat over the top is usually enough. If it is hollow or blown when tapped, it needs hacking off and re-plastering. Dot-and-dab plasterboard is often the faster option on uneven solid-brick walls in older Slough houses, but it loses a little room width and needs care around sockets.
What makes a plastering quote accurate?
Room dimensions including ceiling height, how many walls and whether ceilings are included, and photos showing existing damage and any coving. Say whether furniture will be out, whether you want the rubbish taken away, and if there is damp — plastering over an unresolved damp problem will blow again within a year.
How long before I can decorate?
Fresh plaster typically needs several days to dry and change colour evenly before a mist coat, longer in winter or on a solid external wall. Ask your plasterer to give you a decorating date in writing, and resist heating the room hard to speed it up — that is what causes hairline cracking.
